Media continues to play a huge role in modern society. Media has the power to influence and shape our observations of our world through strategic placed representations. Media has also given society a much-needed pathway to communicate, which enabled the world to continue from within our homes during the COVID epidemic and has continued to developed.

This led to the undisputed commercial standing as the industry grows it employs a vast number of people. The global nature of the current media, mirrored with the technical industrial advances, leads us as a school to believe that its significance in our student’s life can only increase.

Media Studies offers our students the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of the above key issues and enables them the ability to deliberate on media theories and themes. Media Studies also enable our students to be able to appreciate and comprehend conceptual framework.

The subject content is detailed in relation to each area of the theoretical framework. This specification requires students to closely analyses and compare media products in relation to relevant key social, cultural, economic, political and historical contexts. 

Our students will study a wide range of media forms in terms of a theoretical framework which consists of media language, representation, media industries and audiences. The following forms are studied in depth through applying all areas of the framework:

 newspapers, television, music video and online, social and participatory media. Advertising and marketing, film, video games, radio and magazines are studied in relation to selected areas of the framework. Areas of the framework are studied in the following way across the three components:
