Elutec and UCL Pearl Seating Project Presentations

19 May

Year 12 Engineering students proudly presented their seating designs for the UCL PEARL building to judges in a “Dragons Den” style format.

The board of judges – Professor Nick Tyler from UCL, Mr Fraser Donaldson from Showcase Interiors, Ms Donovan – Elutec Academy Principal and Mr Edwards – Elutec Academy Business Manager put the students through some tough questioning about their designs.

Finally, after careful consideration, it was decided that teams 1, 4 and 6 are to go through to the next round of the project.

Congratulations and well done to all the students who took part!

“Thanks for inviting me to be a part of this event. I am very happy that PEARL has been able to be such an inspiration to the students, as evidenced by their presentations, ideas and creativity.

I think the students rose magnificently to the challenge of creating something extraordinary in response to being asked for something ordinary - a bench - and it shows the calibre of students at Elutec and the teaching that encourages them to be so creative.

All groups had good ideas and showed evidence of teamwork. The three we selected to go forward represented, in addition, examples of exceptional and original thinking, in terms of the conceptual design, the manufacturing issues involved and the aesthetics needed in such a product.  Well done to all.”
